  • Community in Every Stitch: Our March Visit to Our Place Society

On March 16, 2026, the Beehive Wool Shop Foundation visited Our Place Society in Victoria for another afternoon of knitting, learning, and connection.

These gatherings are a reminder that fibre arts are not just about making – they are about being together. Around the table, people share stories, support one another, and build relationships in a way that feels natural and welcoming. What starts as a simple activity becomes a space where community can grow.

With each visit, we see that sense of connection deepen. Participants are not only gaining confidence in their stitches, but also in themselves and in each other. There is a growing rhythm to the group – people checking in, offering help, celebrating progress, and creating something collectively.

This work is at the heart of the Beehive Wool Shop Foundation. We are dedicated to promoting community engagement and mental well-being through knitting, crochet, and other fibre arts, while working to remove barriers by providing access to materials, education, and inclusive programming. In spaces like this, we see that vision come to life – a community where creativity, connection, and resilience are built together.

We are incredibly grateful to Our Place Society for welcoming us so warmly and for sharing this space with us. It is a privilege to be part of such a strong and caring community.

We look forward to returning on April 13 to continue building connections, sharing skills, and making together.

  • February Visit to Our Place Society

Today, the Beehive Wool Shop Foundation – the non-profit arm of Beehive Wool Shop – had the pleasure of visiting Our Place Society once again.

Each visit reminds us why this work matters so much. What a joy it was to see how much the students have grown in their knitting skills. Scarves are well underway, stitches are looking confident and even, and creativity is flourishing. We were especially delighted to see Salome begin her very first sweater – a wonderful milestone that reflects both dedication and courage.

There is something deeply meaningful about watching skills develop one stitch at a time. Knitting offers more than technique; it creates space for focus, connection, patience, and pride in one’s progress. Seeing that confidence grow within the group is incredibly inspiring.

We are so grateful to Our Place Society for welcoming us back so warmly. It is a privilege to share time, yarn, and learning together, and we are already looking forward to our next visit.

    With gratitude,

  • Good Things Happen When We Knit Together

At the Beehive Wool Shop Foundation, we believe that fibre arts are more than a hobby. They are a way to connect, to slow down, and to create spaces where people feel welcome, capable, and valued. Over the past year, our community-based programs have continued to show us just how powerful a simple ball of yarn can be.

We had the pleasure of spending time with the community at Our Place Society, working alongside a group of engaged and enthusiastic students learning to knit. For some, it was their first time holding needles; for others, it was a chance to return to a skill they hadn’t used in years. What stood out most was not just the learning, but the care people showed one another – encouragement offered freely, progress celebrated collectively, and confidence growing stitch by stitch. We are deeply grateful to Our Place Society for welcoming us so warmly and for the vital work they do to support dignity, learning, and belonging in our community.

We also wrapped up another season of Knit Connect at the University of Victoria, where students came together to knit, talk, laugh, and share what they love. These gatherings offered a low-pressure, screen-free space to connect with others, care for mental well-being, and build community through making. Watching friendships form across tables of yarn reminded us how important accessible, creative spaces are – especially during times of stress and transition.

These programs reflect the heart of our mandate as a Foundation: to remove barriers to participation in fibre arts and to use creativity as a tool for connection and well-being. We are committed to offering inclusive, welcoming programming that serves people across ages, backgrounds, and abilities, with particular care for those who are often left out of traditional creative spaces.

Good things really do happen when we knit together. We are honoured to be part of these moments of connection and look forward to continuing this work – building community, confidence, and belonging, one stitch at a time.
